Things To Consider Before Buying Glow Powder

Glow in the dark powder has gained immense popularity and is used by a lot of people for commercial purposes, designing purposes, or for creativity and fun.

There are many brands available in the market that produce glow powder, which can make it difficult for you to make a choice.

However, if you take into account certain factors, then you will be able to make an informed decision. For your benefit, we have listed all the important factors that you need to take into account prior to making a purchase.

All things to consider before getting the Best glow in the dark powder in the market1. Substance

Glow in the dark powder is typically referred to as phosphorescent pigment. It is the basis of almost all products that glow in the dark. This powder absorbs light and then emits it over some time. This powder consists of phosphorus, which helps it to glow brightly in dark areas.

Most glow powders is made by adding copper to zinc sulfide. In fact, it is the most common way to create glow powder. However, with time, strontium aluminate-based glow powders are coming into the forefront as they offer the brightest and longest afterglow.

Plus, all glow powders based on sulfur come with a sulfurous odor, short glow time, and are not pleasant to work with. Well, it completely depends upon you to select the glow powder of your choice.

However, it is best if you purchase the strontium aluminate glow powder as it ensures a pleasant working environment with no odor, and it lasts longer as compared to the sulfur one. It is also the most popular and widely used glow powder.

2. Use

A glow powder comes with multiple uses, and most of the time, it is mixed with some other substance for usage. Therefore, you need to check prior to purchasing this kind of powder that it can mix well with other substances.

You need to ensure that your powder can be mixed with almost any transparent element. Some of the most common ones are acrylic, oil-based paints, epoxies, resins, solvents, glass, rubber, clay, and many more.

It is significant that your glow powder works perfectly well with all these mediums so that you can use it efficiently. Also, remember that your powder will not change the attributes of any medium.

For instance, if you are planning to use the powder to design your garments, then it needs to be mixed with fabric paint. It is necessary because applying the powder on clothes is not possible, so you need to apply the glow powder in the form of liquid.

This will ensure that the powder stays on your clothes and makes them shine brightly in the darkest rooms.

3. Safety

No matter what type of product you prefer to buy, safety is a fundamental factor that you must consider. No one would like to take risks for their health or of their close ones. Therefore, whatever product you purchase must give you a guarantee of safe use.

Glow in the dark powder is water-proof, nontoxic, and nonradioactive, which means it is completely safe to be used both by adults and children alike.

However, kids should use this powder under the supervision of an adult to avoid any type of mishap. Plus, this type of powder is also weather-resistant, so it can be utilized both indoors and outdoors.

4. Glow

If you are investing in a glow powder, then its brightness is very important. A powder that does not glow brightly is of no use. The tricky thing about this type of powder is that they all do not glow at the same ratio.

It comes in different colors, and each color comes with its own brightness and glow time. Typically, glow powder comes in eleven different colors.

Green, blue, and aqua are considered the strongest and brightest colors as compared to purple and red so, if you are searching for glow in the dark powder that shines dazzlingly, then it’s best to opt for one in either green, blue, or aqua color.

5. Art ‘N Glow Neutral Glow In The Dark Pigment Powder

If you want the “best quality” powder, this one is for you. It is made from coated strontium aluminate, which is the brightest, longest-lasting glow in the dark technology available anywhere. Since it has the best quality, the price is higher while the quantity is way lesser.

You get five colors, 0.42 oz each, at the price where you can easily get twelve colors in the market. But a little goes a long way with this powder. Don’t neglect it because it has fewer colors and quantity; this thing really steals the show when given a chance.

Now, it is available in two colors – Neutral and Phosphorescent. Both have different colors and looks different in the daylight. It’s no brainer that neutral looks neutral in the day and vice-versa. Neutral has a brighter look to them, but fluorescent has a richer color to them as well.

If I have to choose, I’ll go with Neutral as the colors are way brighter. The green and aqua glow the best while Dark blue hardly fluoresce at all. I don’t understand why Dark Blue is even included, but I am happy with others.

With this powder, you get a free UV LED keychain that helps you conveniently charge them. I still recommend keeping it under the sun or using blacklight, but yes, it’s quite handy. You can use it for tons of things(resin, murals, glass blowing), and since it’s non-toxic and non-radioactive, it’s safe, both for you and the environment.

Pros

  • Made from the best quality material
  • Glows brightly for long
  • Free UV LED Keychain that works well
  • Available in two colors
  • 30 Day 100% Money Back Guarantee

Cons

  • Dark blue color hardly glows
  • The number of colors is less
  • Costlier than other powder

4. HXDZFX Glow in The Dark Pigment Powder UV Powder

This is nothing but a lite version of the best powder on the list(from HXDZFX). However, I did spot some changes that made me drop some rankings. But let’s first talk about the similarities. Both are non-toxic, non-radioactive, and can be used in water-based mediums like acrylic paints.

Both offer 2 months of quality satisfaction guarantee and comes with a decent UV lamp for changing. They have the same 12 colors that glow brightly for hours, but one comes in a bottle container while the other has non-resealable bags.

Of course, these bags aren’t as convenient and can lead to a lot of wastage. You have to be very careful when dealing with this powder-like cutting from the edge and folding it tight afterward. This headache can’t be seen in the bigger version.

Also, did I mentioned that each bag contains 0.4oz powder, which is lesser than the bottle one. The main difference that I have spotted so far is that it doesn’t work well with any type of paint. You can use it in resin, and it works like a charm, but the same isn’t true for paint.

The thing is, the crystals here(or the particles) are quite large, so it doesn’t dissolve in the water. It becomes quite gritty, but mixing it up well ain’t that easy.

That’s the reason why it’s not near the bigger version, but still, it’s better than tons of other powders that aren’t included in the list. Also, the price difference between the two isn’t big, so go for the bigger one.

Pros

  • Glows super bright; some even glow in the daylight
  • Waterproof, non-toxic, non-radioactive
  • Doesn’t smell bad
  • Free UV lamp with batteries included for charging
  • 2 months of quality satisfaction guarantee

Cons

  • Comes in no resealable bags that aren’t convenient to use
  • The crystals are big and don’t dissolve in the water

 3. SEISSO Glow In The Dark Pigment Powder With Lamp

This glow powder from Seisso is value for money. It’s thick, organized, glows super bright, and can be used for tons of things(Slime, nail art, etc.). Also, it’s perfect for glow parties, black-light parties, and other fun activities.

Although I always recommend glow paint for night parties, this powder is also a good option. Now, it comes in two options – 12 colors and 6 colors, and the only difference between them(at the moment) is three bucks.

By spending three more bucks, you get six more colors and double the quantity(12x.07oz). Each bottle contains 0.7 oz powder, which gives you plenty of powder for your “things.” Also, each package comes with a small light for charging, but it’s a piece of junk, to be honest.

Firstly, it needs 3-AAA batteries to work, which aren’t included. And secondly, it’s no brighter than a lit match, so I’ll recommend charging it under sunlight or Blacklight(preferred) to see it fluoresce.

Pros

  • Thick, glows bright, and multi-purpose
  • Value for money, it’s super affordable
  • Comes with a small light for charging(without batteries)
  • Charges pretty quickly

Cons

  • Doesn’t comes with 3-AAA batteries

  • Super Bright and Long Lasting: You just need to ‘charge’ the pigments with a lamp and watch it magically begins to glow in the dark. (Recommended light more than half an hour)
  • Beautifully Wrapped: Each color comes with a separate transparent plastic bottle that doesn’t make your room look cluttered, and keeps your desk neat.
  • The thicker (to a point) the layer of Glow Powder will produce longer and brighter luminosity. Do not grind the Glow Powder, it will destroy the crystal structure and therefore decrease luminosity.

2. DecorRom Glow In The Dark Pigment Powder with UV Lamp

I am very much impressed by this glow powder. After using it, I understood why it’s the highest-rated glow powder online(at least on Amazon). Let’s be honest; this thing rocks. From design to glow to cleaning it up, this thing never lacked behind.

It’s gentle on skin, non-toxic, non-radioactive, and works in water-based mediums like acrylic paints. Also, it works with UV resin and epoxy. It works wonders with UV resin, but for epoxy, you need a UV light for maximum glow(personal experience).

Each pack contains ten glow powder(0.7oz each) and a UV lamp. While all colors are good, Teal, Sky Blue, Yellows, and Greens are brighter than others. They glow for a long time and are so bright that you can see it fluoresce in the day.

The glow heavily depends on the charge. If you charge it using the UV lamp(included), it glows well; much better with the sunlight, but you can’t see its maximum potential without a UV Blacklight. Now, one complaint people have about this powder is inconsistency.

If you look closely, each bottle has a different quantity of powder. While that looks unprofessional and stupid, this isn’t. It comes with a card that explains that the powder is packed by weight and not some quantity meter. And since some crystals are heavier than others, the quantity can vary.

That’s why you see the inconsistent quantity. But, I realized that bottles with less in them have a powerful pigment punch, so you probably need less of them. So, in the end, it all balances out in the end.

The last thing that has impressed me is the bottle itself, which has two options for pouring; one side is normal while the other has small holes for slow flow. It’s never been so convenient.

Pros

  • Non-toxic, non-radioactive, and gentle on skin
  • Works with water-based mediums, UV resin, and epoxy
  • Glows brightly for long; some glow even in the day time
  • Highest rated Glow Powder on Amazon
  • The bottle design makes it convenient

Cons

  • Setting up the flashlight ain’t seamless

1. HXDZFX Glow in The Dark Pigment Powder

This glow powder from HXDZFX is by far the best I have tried, and believe me; I have tried a ton. It glows super bright, is waterproof, non-toxic, and comes with a free UV lamp that charges well. You get 12 bottles, each containing 0.7 oz powder that glows really well.

Now, all the colors are great, but some glow way better than the others. Like, blue doesn’t pop up well while the Yellow-Green tone glows even in the light, just beautiful. Even after trying tons of glow powder, seeing it fluoresce in the daylight was shocking to me.

I knew this had to be on the list, but all the features made it to the top. Since it’s waterproof, you can use it in water-based mediums like acrylic paints and stuff. This powder is non-toxic and non-radioactive, so it doesn’t harm you or the environment.

Also, it doesn’t smell bad like other powders. You can make glow resin, neon glow acrylic colors, etc., and it works like a charm. Unlike other powders, the UV lamp included actually works, and it comes with the batteries.

It makes it glow bright for a decent time, but for a long glow, you can keep it in the sunlight. Just charge them in the sun for about an hour, and man, they glow! Best part? You get 2 months quality satisfaction guarantee, so there is nothing to lose.

Pros

  • Glows super bright; some even glow in the daylight
  • Waterproof, non-toxic, non-radioactive
  • Doesn’t smell bad
  • Free UV lamp with batteries included for charging
  • 2 months of quality satisfaction guarantee

Cons

  • Nothing really!
